Hito Steyerl: “Witness. Notes to Philosophy of Interview”

What is a testimony? What is it´s relation to truth? These questions will be discussed using examples from films by Jean Luc Godard, Jean Pierre Gorin, Alain Resnais/Marguerite Duras and Roee Rosen.
Hito Steyerl is a documentary movie maker and theorist of art. The exhibition Political Practices of (Post-)Yugoslav Art is displaying her work Journal No 1- An Artist's Impression, exploring the relations between the event, the traces left, the act of witnessing and the narration established by it, regarding the destiny of the film archive of The Film Museum (Cinematheque) of Sarajevo, destroyed during the wars of nineties, the process during which The Film Journal No 1 was lost.
